The Order for the Worship of God

Follow along by watching our livestream on our YouTube channel at 930a on Sunday.

Let the first tone of the organ be a call to quiet meditation in which all may become aware of God’s presence, and lift up a prayer for yourself and for Faith Church.

Prelude          Mary Heller

Welcome and Greeting

Preparation of Our Hearts

Call to Worship     Psalm 104:1-3

1   Bless the Lord, O my soul.

    O Lord my God, you are very great.

You are clothed with honor and majesty,

2     wrapped in light as with a garment.

You stretch out the heavens like a tent;

3     you set the beams of your chambers on the waters;

you make the clouds your chariot;

    you ride on the wings of the wind;

Hymn     # 428     O Worship the King           (Gray Psalter Hymnal)

Confession of Sin and Assurance of Pardon

Psalter     Psalm 111     (NRSVUE)                                       Ron Smith

1Praise the Lord! I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart, in the company of the upright, in the congregation.

2Great are the works of the Lord, studied by all who delight in them.

3Full of honor and majesty is his work, and his righteousness endures forever.

4He has gained renown by his wonderful deeds; the Lord is gracious and merciful.

5He provides food for those who fear him; he is ever mindful of his covenant.

6He has shown his people the power of his works, in giving them the heritage of the nations.

7The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy.

8They are established forever and ever, to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness.

9He sent redemption to his people; he has commanded his covenant forever. Holy and awesome is his name.

10The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever.

New Testament Reading     2 Corinthians 6:14-18

       14Do not be mismatched with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and lawlessness have in common? Or what partnership is there between light and darkness? 15What agreement does Christ have with Beliar? Or what does a believer share with an unbeliever? 16What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God, as God said,

       “I will live in them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
      17Therefore come out from them, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch nothing unclean; then I will welcome you, 18and I will be your father, and you shall be my sons and daughters,
says the Lord Almighty.”

Lector: This is the Word of the Lord.

Congregation: Thanks be to God for His Word.

Hymn     Insert     O Wondrous Love

Old Testament Reading     1 Kings 11:1-13

       11 King Solomon loved many foreign women along with the daughter of Pharaoh: Moabite, Ammonite, Edomite, Sidonian, and Hittite women, 2from the nations concerning which the Lord had said to the Israelites, “You shall not enter into marriage with them, neither shall they with you, for they will surely incline your heart to follow their gods.” Solomon clung to these in love. 3Among his wives were seven hundred princesses and three hundred concubines, and his wives turned away his heart. 4For when Solomon was old, his wives turned away his heart after other gods, and his heart was not true to the Lord his God, as was the heart of his father David. 5For Solomon followed Astarte the goddess of the Sidonians and Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites. 6So Solomon did what was evil in the sight of the Lord and did not completely follow the Lord, as his father David had done. 7Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab and for Molech the abomination of the Ammonites on the mountain east of Jerusalem. 8He did the same for all his foreign wives who offered incense and sacrificed to their gods.

       9Then the Lord was angry with Solomon because his heart had turned away from the Lord, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice 10and had commanded him concerning this matter, that he should not follow other gods, but he did not observe what the Lord had commanded. 11Therefore the Lord said to Solomon, “Since this has been your mind and you have not kept my covenant and my statutes that I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom from you and give it to your servant. 12Yet for the sake of your father David I will not do it in your lifetime; I will tear it out of the hand of your son. 13I will not, however, tear away the entire kingdom; I will give one tribe to your son for the sake of my servant David and for the sake of Jerusalem, which I have chosen.”
