The Order for the Worship of God

Follow along by watching our livestream on our YouTube channel at 930a on Sunday.

Let the first tone of the organ be a call to quiet meditation in which all may become aware of God’s presence, and lift up a prayer for yourself and for Faith Church.

Prelude          Mary Heller

Welcome and Greeting

Preparation of Our Hearts

Call to Worship     Psalm 100

1 Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth.
2 Serve the Lord with gladness;
come into his presence with singing.

3 Know that the Lord is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people and the sheep of his pasture.

4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise.
Give thanks to him; bless his name.

5 For the Lord is good;
his steadfast love endures forever
and his faithfulness to all generations.

Hymn     # 100    All People That on Earth Do Dwell
(Gray Psalter Hymnal - sung to the tune Old Hundredth # 134)

Prayer of Confession    Front of Gray Psalter Hymnal

Prayer for Illumination     Donna Lofgren

New Testament Reading     Galatians 6:7-10          (NRSVUE)

7Do not be deceived; God is not mocked, for you reap whatever you sow. 8If you sow to your own flesh, you will reap corruption from the flesh, but if you sow to the Spirit, you will reap eternal life from the Spirit. 9So let us not grow weary in doing what is right, for we will reap at harvest time, if we do not give up. 10So then, whenever we have an opportunity, let us work for the good of all and especially for those of the family of faith.

Lector: This is the Word of the Lord.

Congregation: Thanks be to God for His Word.

Special Music     God Is Working His Purpose Out          Grieke Toebes

# 594 Gray Psalter Hymnal

God is working his purpose out
As year succeeds to year
God is working his purpose out
And the time is drawing near
Nearer and nearer draws the time
The time that shall surely be
When the earth shall be filled with the glory of God
As the waters cover the sea

From utmost east to utmost west
Where’er the church has gone
By the mouth of many messengers
The call of God has come
Give ear to me, you continents
You isles, give ear to me
That the earth may be filled with the glory of God
As the waters cover the sea

March we forth in the strength of God
With the banner of Christ unfurled
That the light of the glorious gospel of truth
May shine throughout the world
Fight we the fight
With sorrow and sin
To set their captives free
That the earth may be filled with the glory of God
As the waters cover the see

All we can do is done in vain
Unless God blesses the deed
Vainly we hope for the havestide
Till God gives life to the seed
Yet nearer and nearer draws the time
The time that shall surely be
When the earth shall be filled with the glory of God
As the waters cover the sea

Hymn     Insert Rock of Ages

Old Testament Reading     1 Kings 9:1-9

9 When Solomon had finished building the house of the Lord and the king’s house and all that Solomon desired to build, 2the Lord appeared to Solomon a second time, as he had appeared to him at Gibeon. 3The Lord said to him, “I have heard your prayer and your plea that you made before me; I have consecrated this house that you have built and put my name there forever; my eyes and my heart will be there for all time. 4As for you, if you will walk before me as David your father walked, with integrity of heart and uprightness, doing according to all that I have commanded you and keeping my statutes and my ordinances, 5then I will establish your royal throne over Israel forever, as I promised your father David, saying, ‘You shall never lack a successor on the throne of Israel.’
6“If you turn aside from following me, you or your children, and do not keep my commandments and my statutes that I have set before you but go and serve other gods and worship them, 7then I will cut Israel off from the land that I have given them, and the house that I have consecrated for my name I will cast out of my sight, and Israel will become a proverb and a taunt among all peoples. 8This house will become a heap of ruins; everyone passing by it will be astonished and will hiss, and they will say, ‘Why has the Lord done such a thing to this land and to this house?’ 9Then they will say, ‘Because they abandoned the Lord their God, who brought their ancestors out of the land of Egypt, and embraced other gods, worshiping them and serving them; therefore the Lord brought this disaster upon them.’ ”

       Prayer of Consecration:

Almighty Lord: we are thankful for all the benefits given us in this bread and wine, this body and blood. As the grain was harvested and the grapes gathered for this food, so may your church in every place be gathered into your household. And as the grain was ground and the grapes crushed, so may our lives be spent in your service, until you return in triumph to gather to yourself the harvest and call us to the marriage feast of the lamb. Amen.
